Special Poll
- Voters’ Trust Shift: For the first time in this election, more voters trust the Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, on economic issues than former President Trump, according to new polling by the Financial Times and the University of Michigan. This marks a significant shift in voter confidence since President Biden withdrew from the race last month.
- Changes in Voter Sentiment: The survey revealed that the number of voters who don’t trust either Trump or Harris has nearly halved. Before Biden stepped out of the race, only 35% of voters trusted him on the economy, compared to 41% for Trump. Now, with Harris leading the Democratic ticket, 42% of voters say they trust her more to handle the economy. Trump’s numbers have stayed the same, but fewer voters are sitting on the fence, as only 10% now say they don’t trust either candidate, down from 18% in July.
- Voters’ Economic Outlook: While Harris has gained ground, voters are still divided on whose policies will benefit them the most. Only 12% believe that Harris’s economic approach will significantly improve their financial situation, compared to 22% who say the same about Trump’s policies. Despite Harris’s improved standing, many voters still trust Trump more on specific issues like trade with China. Additionally, 60% of voters think Harris should diverge from Biden’s economic policies, indicating that many are looking for change in how the economy is managed.
