Trump’s Proposal Gets Strong Support From Voters

A new internal survey from Republican pollster Fabrizio Ward shows that President Trump’s latest tax proposals are resonating strongly with voters across several key Senate battleground states giving Republicans some political momentum heading into budget negotiations in Congress.

According to a source who attended the presentation of the data to Senate chiefs of staff on Thursday, Fabrizio emphasized that Republicans must stay connected to the Trump voter base and find ways to keep them energized. His message was clear: Republicans should focus on delivering results and if they can’t, they should make sure voters know it’s because Democrats blocked them.

In Fabrizio’s words, “The key takeaway is that we need to work together to deliver for voters.” He noted that it’s much easier to campaign on what you’ve accomplished than on blaming the other side.

The polling shows widespread support for Trump’s tax agenda, particularly in areas that impact everyday working families. In Georgia, support for the proposed unpaid caregiver tax credit was especially strong, with 85% of respondents backing it. Other proposals like eliminating federal taxes on Social Security (73%), tips (69%), and overtime pay (62%) also polled well. Additionally, 61% supported lowering corporate taxes for manufacturers, and 59% backed extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.

The numbers were similarly robust in North Carolina, where 85% supported the caregiver credit and two-thirds favored eliminating taxes on Social Security and tips. Support dipped slightly for other parts of the agenda but remained above 50% across the board.

Even traditionally blue states like Minnesota showed surprising enthusiasm. Eighty-seven percent of respondents supported the caregiver credit, and 76% liked the idea of removing federal taxes from Social Security benefits. Support for other provisions including eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and car loan interest hovered in the 60% range.

Michigan mirrored many of these trends. A solid 86% supported the caregiver tax credit, with 73% favoring tax relief on Social Security and 70% backing car loan interest deductions. A majority also favored lower corporate manufacturing taxes and extending the 2017 tax cuts.

The results were more mixed in New England. In New Hampshire and Maine, support for the caregiver credit remained very high (88% and 85%, respectively), as did support for eliminating Social Security taxes. But backing dropped for other elements of the Trump tax agenda particularly the continuation of his earlier tax cuts, which polled below 50% in both states.

These findings land just as House Republicans passed a budget resolution designed to enact core parts of Trump’s economic plan. The Senate now faces pressure to align with that framework and begin crafting legislation on tax cuts, spending caps, and other hot-button issues.

The survey, conducted between April 2 and 6, polled 300 registered voters in each of six battleground states Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Maine totaling 1,800 voters. The margin of error was 5.66 percentage points for individual states and 2.31 points overall.

As budget battles heat up, these polling numbers may give Republican lawmakers reason to double down on Trump’s tax policies especially those that offer tangible relief to working families and retirees, which seem to be winning favor in swing states that will decide control of the Senate in 2026.
