Trump and GOP Leaders Pay Tribute to Hulk Hogan: “A Great Friend and a True American Icon”
President Trump paid tribute Tuesday to wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, remembering him as a “great friend” and a symbol of strength, patriotism, and heart.
“We lost a great friend today, the ‘Hulkster,’” Trump wrote in a statement. “Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart.”
Trump highlighted Hogan’s high-energy appearance at last year’s Republican National Convention, calling it one of the most memorable moments of the event. “He entertained fans from all over the world, and the cultural impact he had was massive.”
Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, was one of the most recognizable figures in professional wrestling, credited with helping to catapult the sport into mainstream popularity. His larger-than-life persona and signature charisma made him a household name across generations.
The WWE megastar was no stranger to controversy. He parted ways with WWE after a leaked video captured him using racially offensive language. Hogan publicly apologized afterward and sought to rebuild his reputation.
At last year’s GOP convention in Milwaukee, Hogan stole the spotlight by tearing off his blazer and shirt mid-speech to reveal a red “Trump-Vance” tank top underneath. The crowd roared as he delivered a booming tribute to “Trumpmania,” embracing the energy that defined both his career and the political moment.
Vice President JD Vance also shared a personal note on social media, recalling a conversation with Hogan where they agreed to grab beers if their paths crossed again. “The next time will have to be on the other side, my friend,” Vance wrote. “Rest in peace.”
Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. White House immigration adviser Tom Homan posted a photo of his late mastiff named “Hulk Homan.” House Speaker Mike Johnson remembered Hogan fondly, writing, “From my childhood in the ‘80s to campaigning with him last year, I always saw him as a giant in stature and in life. May he rest in peace.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, whose family met Hogan just a few months ago, also expressed condolences. “He was our superhero growing up,” DeSantis said. “My kids got to meet him not long ago. We’re heartbroken, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone in Florida who loved him.”
Hogan’s legacy as a larger-than-life figure, both in and out of the ring, remains etched in American pop culture and now in the hearts of those who shared the stage with him in politics.
