President Trump issued a stark warning over the weekend that Elon Musk will face “serious consequences” if he supports Democratic candidates in upcoming elections. In a phone interview with NBC, Trump asserted that any backing Musk offers to Democrats, particularly opponents of GOP lawmakers who back the controversial spending package dubbed the “big, beautiful bill,” would come with significant repercussions.
“You’ll have to pay very serious consequences if you do that,” Trump said, directly addressing Musk’s political future.
The hostile exchange follows a wrenching fallout between the two, which began after Musk criticized the Republican-led legislative initiative, accusing Trump of being ungrateful. He even suggested Trump’s name appeared in undisclosed files related to Jeffrey Epstein and endorsed calls for impeachment claims that increasingly strained their once-friendly relationship.
Trump, in turn, publicly denounced Musk as “crazy” and implied he’d strip government contracts from Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, as part of his pushback.
Until recently, Musk had hinted that he would significantly reduce his political spending. “In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” he said just last month comments that now echo amid this escalating feud.
