Trump Unveils ‘Golden Dome’

President Trump announced Tuesday that the Golden Dome missile defense system would cost $175 billion and be fully operational within three years, far below earlier estimates for both cost and completion timeline.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump revealed that the architecture for the defense shield had officially been selected, and that Gen. Michael Guetlein, Vice Chief of Space Operations for the Space Force, would lead the effort.

He emphasized that the system would be integrated with existing U.S. defense infrastructure and promised its completion before the end of his second term. “We’ll have it done in about three years,” Trump said. “Once fully constructed, Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles no matter where they come from even if they’re launched from across the globe or from space. This will be the best system ever built.”

The $175 billion figure, significantly lower than previously expected, is meant to cover development, construction, and deployment of the entire system, including new space-based and ground-layer technologies.

Trump also stated that Canada expressed interest in joining the initiative. “Canada has reached out to us they want to be a part of it. They want protection too, and we’ll be speaking with them soon,” he said.

During the announcement, Trump sat at the Resolute Desk flanked by large display posters. One featured a golden outline of the United States enclosed in a glowing dome repelling missile attacks, while the other included a similar illustration alongside one of Trump’s quotes: “This is a Very Dangerous World. We’re going to protect our citizens like never before.”
