Trump To Get 3rd Term As President?

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) has introduced a proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution, aiming to allow former President Donald Trump to serve a third term in the White House. Ogles believes this change would provide the country with the “bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.”

The proposed amendment would modify the 22nd Amendment, which currently limits presidents to two terms. Ogles’ amendment states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

Ogles argues that Trump’s leadership offers a solution to the challenges the country has faced in recent years. In a statement, he said, “President Trump’s decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years. He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness.”

While Trump himself has joked about the idea of a third term, he has publicly stated he has no intention of pursuing one. In a 2023 interview with Time magazine, Trump emphasized, “I wouldn’t be in favor of a challenge [to the 22nd Amendment]. Not for me. I intend to serve four years and do a great job. I want to bring our country back. I want to put it back on the right track.”

House Republicans, including Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), have downplayed Trump’s previous remarks about a third term as jokes. Burchett told reporters, “That was a joke. It was clearly a joke.”

Ogles, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has praised Trump’s swift executive actions during his presidency, including those addressing the southern border, energy independence, and international organizations like the World Health Organization. He stated, “In just a few short days, President Trump has already taken action to undo the catastrophic policies of the Biden Administration and put the United States back on the path to strength and prosperity.”

Although the idea of a constitutional amendment to allow a third term has generated discussion, such a change would require a long and complex process, including approval by two-thirds of both the House and Senate and ratification by three-fourths of the states.
