Special Poll
A recent CBS News poll reveals a close race between former President Trump and Vice President Harris in key battleground states. Both candidates are tied with 50 percent support each in these critical areas. Nationally, Harris holds a slight lead over Trump, with 50 percent to his 49 percent in a head-to-head matchup. When third-party candidates are considered, Harris extends her lead to 2 points.
The poll, conducted by CBS News/YouGov, highlights the significant enthusiasm among Democrats following Harris’s ascension as the party’s official nominee. This enthusiasm has translated into record-breaking fundraising and large campaign crowds. Additionally, more Democrats now say they will “definitely” vote compared to when President Biden was the nominee.
Key findings from the poll include:
- Voter Turnout Intentions: 85 percent of Democrats and 88 percent of Republicans plan to vote, showing a slight increase in Democratic enthusiasm compared to the previous month.
- Support Among Black Voters: Harris has strong support from Black voters, with 81 percent saying they will vote for her, up from 73 percent for Biden.
- Gender Gap: Harris leads among women voters with 54 percent support, while Trump leads among men with 54 percent.
- Battleground States: The candidates are tied in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Trump holds narrow leads in Wisconsin, Georgia, and North Carolina, while Harris leads in Nevada.
The CBS News/YouGov poll surveyed approximately 3,100 registered voters between July 30 and August 2, with a margin of error of 2.1 percent.
These results suggest a highly competitive race as the election approaches, with voter turnout and demographic support playing crucial roles in the outcome.
