Former President Trump marked Memorial Day with harsh criticisms directed at the judges handling his civil and criminal cases, as well as labeling his political opponents as “human scum.”
After initially posting a solemn tribute to fallen soldiers on Truth Social early Monday, Trump launched a lengthy tirade against President Biden and the judiciary. “Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country,” wrote Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee.
Trump specifically targeted Judge Lewis Kaplan, whom he described as a “Radical Left, Trump Hating Federal Judge.” Kaplan presided over defamation cases brought by writer E. Jean Carroll, resulting in Trump being ordered to pay over $80 million in damages, a ruling he is currently appealing.
Additionally, Trump criticized Judge Arthur Engoron, who oversaw a civil business fraud trial in New York that ended with Trump being fined more than $450 million. Trump called Engoron a “wacko” and hinted at future attacks on Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over his ongoing criminal hush money trial.
In stark contrast, President Biden delivered a somber address at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. He reflected on the loss of his son, Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer believed to be linked to toxic chemical exposure during his military service in the Iraq War.
“I know it hurts,” Biden told the families of fallen veterans. “The hurt is still real. Still raw. This week marks nine years since I lost my son Beau. The pain of his loss is with me every day, as it is with you. Still sharp. Still clear. But so is the pride I feel in the service. As if I can still hear him saying, ‘It’s my duty, Dad. It’s my duty.’”
Many congressional leaders also observed the holiday with statements of remembrance and gratitude, honoring the sacrifices of service members and their families.
