Donald Trump is claiming that he was forced to hold a campaign rally in a 750-seat theater due to Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden allegedly using Secret Service resources to protect the President of Iran, who Trump says is “doing everything possible to kill me.”
In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump accused Harris and Biden of deliberately making it difficult for him to campaign.
“We had one of the biggest crowds I’ve ever seen on Saturday in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where a terrible migrant crime was recently committed, and we ended up having to use a 750-seat theater, sending away more than 50,000 people,” Trump wrote.
Trump claimed the use of such a small venue was necessary because there wasn’t enough Secret Service protection available to accommodate a larger crowd.
“They were unable to provide us with Secret Service protection sufficient for the size of the crowd because they had to protect the President of Iran, who is doing everything possible to kill me, at the United Nations event,” Trump said.
Last week, Trump’s campaign stated that U.S. intelligence officials had briefed him on “real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States.”
The campaign did not provide further details, leaving it unclear if these threats were new or related to past incidents. The Iranian government has not responded to these claims but has previously denied any involvement in U.S. affairs.
The Secret Service confirmed that its resources were “pushed to their limit” during the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, according to CBS News. However, there is no evidence that Secret Service protection was intentionally withheld from Trump at the request of Harris or Biden.
A Secret Service official, speaking anonymously to CBS News, explained that the agency was responsible for the “safety and security of over 140 world leaders amid a heightened global threat environment.”
Trump, in his post, said, “we complained ‘like hell,’ but there was nothing we could do.”
The campaign rally, initially scheduled to take place outdoors at an airport on Saturday, was ultimately relocated to the smaller, indoor venue.
