Former President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will revoke Joe Biden’s security clearance and put an end to his daily intelligence briefings, citing concerns over national security.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information. Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s security clearances and stopping his daily intelligence briefings,” Trump declared in a Truth Social post.
Trump justified his decision by pointing to Biden’s own actions in 2021 when, as president, he instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to deny Trump access to national security briefings—an informational courtesy typically extended to former presidents. “He set the precedent,” Trump said.
Trump also referenced the recently released Hur Report, which described Biden as having “poor memory” and suggested that even during his younger years, he struggled with handling sensitive information.
“I will always protect our national security—JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump added in his post.
The move is expected to spark political debate, as revoking security clearance for former presidents is rare. Intelligence briefings are traditionally offered as a sign of institutional continuity and respect, though they are not guaranteed. Biden’s decision in 2021 to deny Trump access to such briefings was based on concerns about how he might use classified information.
With this latest announcement, Trump is making it clear that he is not only following Biden’s precedent but also taking a firm stance on who he believes should have access to sensitive national security matters.
