Trump Picks Arizona Governor

President Trump on Monday threw his support behind two Republican contenders in Arizona’s 2026 race for governor, endorsing both Karrin Taylor Robson and Rep. Andy Biggs. The move reflects Trump’s personal ties to both candidates and a desire not to choose sides in a potentially contentious primary.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained that he had initially endorsed Robson when she appeared to be the only major Republican candidate. But after Biggs entered the race unexpectedly, Trump found himself in a difficult position.

“I like Karrin Taylor Robson of Arizona a lot, and when she asked me to Endorse her, with nobody else running, I Endorsed her, and was happy to do so,” Trump wrote. “When Andy Biggs decided to run for Governor, quite unexpectedly, I had a problem.”

“Two fantastic candidates, two terrific people, two wonderful champions, and it is therefore my Great Honor TO GIVE MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT TO BOTH. Either one will never let you down.”

Robson, a businesswoman and former member of the Arizona Board of Regents, announced her second bid for governor in February. Her launch video included a clip of Trump praising her during a December event in Arizona. She previously ran in 2022 but lost the Republican primary to Kari Lake, who went on to lose narrowly to Democrat Katie Hobbs in the general election.

Biggs, a staunch conservative and chair of the House Freedom Caucus, officially entered the governor’s race after filing a statement of interest in January. He has been a prominent ally of Trump in Congress since his election in 2016. In a post thanking Trump for the endorsement, Biggs said, “It’s been an honor to support you and fight for your agenda since 2016. I look forward to fighting alongside you as Governor of Arizona, the greatest state in the nation!”

The dual endorsement adds an unusual wrinkle to the race, potentially reshaping the dynamics of the primary field. Trump’s support has historically played a major role in Arizona’s GOP contests, and endorsing both leading candidates may split MAGA-aligned voters or pressure others to bow out.

Biggs, who recently shared the heartbreaking news of his daughter’s death, received condolences from both Robson and current Governor Hobbs. Despite political rivalries, the gestures reflect a moment of unity in an increasingly competitive field.

While Arizona flipped from blue to red in the 2024 presidential election, signaling growing GOP strength in the state, Hobbs remains relatively popular with voters. A recent poll from Noble Predictive Insights shows her approval rating at 46 percent, suggesting that Republicans may face a challenge in unseating her, even with Trump’s backing.
