MSNBC is canceling Joy Reid’s evening news show as part of a broader network shake-up under the new presidential administration.
Reid’s final broadcast is expected sometime this week, according to a source familiar with the changes. She has hosted “The ReidOut” since 2020, covering political news and current events. Prior to that, she anchored “The Reid Report” and “AM Joy” for the network.
MSNBC declined to comment on the changes, but sources say that Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, who currently co-host “The Weekend”, will take over Reid’s 7 p.m. time slot.
The shake-up extends beyond Reid’s departure. Jen Psaki is expected to anchor one of the week’s primetime hours, while Alex Wagner, host of “Alex Wagner Tonight”, will no longer be in a primetime role as she transitions to a special assignment correspondent position.
The restructuring comes just over a month after Rashida Jones announced her departure as MSNBC president. Rebecca Kutler, a former senior vice president of content strategy and a 20-year CNN veteran, has stepped in to lead the network.
Kutler acknowledged the challenges ahead, telling MSNBC leadership that the upcoming year will be a time of change and opportunity, with new leadership, new offices, and a nonstop news cycle, according to a source familiar with her remarks.
