President Donald Trump officially revoked the security clearances of several political opponents in a memo issued Friday, stating it was no longer in the national interest for these individuals to have access to classified information. The directive included over a dozen names, ranging from current and former officials to legal figures involved in past investigations or legal actions against Trump.
Those listed include former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Others named were Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, former National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, former Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, and attorneys who previously worked on cases involving Trump.
The memo ordered all executive departments and agencies to take immediate action to revoke any active security clearances associated with the individuals listed. Trump also directed that access to any classified material be fully rescinded in compliance with existing law.
This move builds on Trump’s earlier announcement in February, when he declared that Biden would no longer receive classified briefings or hold security clearance. At the time, Trump said there was no valid reason for Biden to continue receiving sensitive national security updates and ordered their immediate termination.
The decision is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to tighten control over access to intelligence and prevent former officials from retaining clearance privileges after leaving office or becoming political opponents.
