Trump Hits GOP Roadblock

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) is openly opposing President-elect Trump’s endorsement of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), taking to social media to criticize Johnson, even comparing him to President Biden. In a post on X, Massie wrote, “I respect and support President Trump, but his endorsement of Mike Johnson will go about as well as his endorsement of Speaker Paul Ryan.”

Massie’s remarks came shortly after Trump gave his full support to Johnson, calling him a “good, hardworking, religious man” who will “do the right thing.” Trump’s endorsement was expected to be a significant boost for Johnson as the House prepares to vote on a new Speaker this Friday.

Despite Trump’s backing, Massie has made it clear he will not support Johnson. In his post, Massie criticized Johnson’s record, accusing him of partnering with Democrats to fund Ukraine in its war against Russia, approving measures that enable surveillance on Americans, and contributing to budget mismanagement. Massie’s stance suggests that Trump’s endorsement may not be enough to unify the party behind Johnson.
