Conservative commentator Candace Owens expressed regret on Tuesday for supporting President Trump during the 2024 election, saying she now feels “embarrassed” about having campaigned for him.
“He’s been a chronic disappointment. And I feel embarrassed that I told people to go vote for him because this wasn’t going to happen, and it is happening,” Owens said in an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Once one of Trump’s most outspoken defenders championing his 2016 campaign and continuing to praise him after he left office Owens has taken a sharp turn, openly criticizing his recent decision to strike Iran in coordination with Israel.
Over the weekend, U.S. B-2 bombers targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities as part of an operation that aligned with Israel’s ongoing military campaign. Owens rejected the idea that Trump acted independently, saying his decision appeared to be driven by foreign influence.
“This was not Trump’s decision; it was Bibi Netanyahu’s decision. And that is the reason that he did it,” Owens told Morgan. “We’re very aware that Israel is dictating our foreign policy, and we’d now like that to stop.”
She argued that there was no immediate danger to the U.S. to justify such a military move, echoing concerns shared by officials like Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard previously testified that Iran had not authorized a nuclear weapons program and did not present an imminent threat.
Trump, however, dismissed that view during a media briefing aboard Air Force One on Tuesday, saying, “I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having one.”
Owens’ disillusionment marks a notable break from the MAGA camp’s once-solid base of public figures and influencers. Her criticism adds to a growing chorus of voices within the conservative movement questioning Trump’s handling of foreign policy and his decision to deepen U.S. involvement in overseas conflicts.
