Trump Goes After Fox News

Donald Trump took aim at Fox News again after its latest poll showed him trailing in job approval, with 44% of respondents saying they approve of the job he’s doing, while 55% disapprove. The numbers put him 11 points underwater adding to a string of unfavorable polling results as he nears the 100-day mark of his second term.

Despite Fox News maintaining a primetime lineup largely supportive of Trump and his policies, the network’s polling division continues to draw his ire. The surveys are conducted jointly by Beacon Research, a Democratic-affiliated firm, and Shaw & Company, a Republican-aligned one. Trump has long claimed these pollsters have underestimated him and his base.

Posting to Truth Social, Trump criticized Fox owner Rupert Murdoch directly: “Rupert Murdoch has told me for years that he is going to get rid of his FoxNews, Trump Hating, Fake Pollster, but he has never done so. This ‘pollster’ has gotten me, and MAGA, wrong for years.” He didn’t stop there. Turning his attention to another Murdoch-owned outlet, Trump added, “While he’s at it, he should start making changes at the China Loving Wall Street Journal. It sucks!!!”

Trump also previewed an unexpected meeting scheduled later in the day with none other than Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg. Goldberg was inadvertently added to a Signal group chat used by senior national security officials in the Trump White House earlier this year, a now-infamous episode dubbed “SignalGate.” When the administration claimed no classified materials were shared, Goldberg published screenshots revealing that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had posted details of upcoming military operations in Yemen targeting Houthi rebels.

“Later today I will be meeting with, of all people, Jeffrey Goldberg,” Trump wrote. “The person responsible for many fictional stories about me, including the made-up HOAX on ‘Suckers and Losers’ and, SignalGate, something he was somewhat more ‘successful’ with.”

According to Trump, Goldberg will be joined by reporters Michael Scherer and Ashley Parker neither of whom Trump considers friendly press. “Not exactly pro-Trump writers, either, to put it mildly!” he said.

He noted the article they are preparing will reportedly be titled, “The Most Consequential President of this Century,” and suggested he’s participating in the interview more out of curiosity than expectation. “I am doing this interview out of curiosity, and as a competition with myself, just to see if it’s possible for The Atlantic to be ‘truthful.’ Are they capable of writing a fair story on ‘TRUMP’? The way I look at it, what can be so bad – I WON!”

Fox News did not respond to a request for comment on Trump’s latest remarks. The Wall Street Journal, which has drawn Trump’s criticism before especially on issues like tariffs has continued to publish critical editorials and hard-hitting coverage of his administration, particularly in its early months.

Trump’s post, blending grievance with bravado, underscores his continued fixation on media loyalty even from outlets that helped propel his rise. As his administration juggles major policy battles at home and abroad, his war with the press remains just as personal.
