Trump Gifted Major Victory By Senate On Friday

The Senate on Friday rejected a resolution that would have limited President Trump’s ability to take further military action against Iran without congressional approval. The measure failed in a 47-53 vote, falling short of the 51 votes needed to pass.

The vote came just days after Trump ordered strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, reigniting debate over executive war powers. The resolution, introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), aimed to reassert Congress’s constitutional role in authorizing military force. Kaine argued that recent events showed war decisions are too serious to be left solely to the president.

The vote largely followed party lines. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was the only Republican to support the resolution, while Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), a strong supporter of Israel, broke with his party and voted against it.

Democrats had spent much of the week voicing concerns over Trump’s unilateral actions toward Iran. Despite those objections, the resolution ultimately failed to gain the bipartisan support needed to move forward.
