Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made an unexpected visit to Mar-a-Lago on Saturday to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.
The meeting also included several key figures expected to play significant roles in Trump’s upcoming administration. Among them were Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), anticipated to serve as Secretary of State; Representative Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), slated for National Security Adviser; and Scott Bessent, chosen for Treasury Secretary, according to reports. Additionally, CBS News noted the presence of Tilman Fertitta, Trump’s pick for ambassador to Italy, at the gathering.
Trump addressed a crowd at Mar-a-Lago prior to a screening of a documentary about John Eastman, one of his close allies, and took the opportunity to praise Prime Minister Meloni.
“This is very exciting. I’m here with a fantastic woman, the prime minister of Italy,” Trump told the audience. “She’s really taken Europe and the world by storm, and we’re just enjoying dinner tonight.”
Senator Rubio, also present at the event, described Meloni as a “great ally” and a “strong leader,” emphasizing the significance of her leadership on the global stage.
