Majority of Viewers Approved of Trump’s Speech, Snap Polls Show
A significant number of Americans who tuned in to watch President Trump’s first joint address to Congress responded positively, according to quick-reaction polls.
A CBS News and YouGov survey released Wednesday found that 76% of viewers approved of Trump’s speech, while 23% disapproved.
Many respondents felt that the president addressed issues that mattered to them, with 63% saying he spent a lot of time on topics they cared about. In contrast, 28% felt he did not focus enough on their concerns, while 9% believed he didn’t address their priorities at all.
The speech left a lasting impression on many, with 68% of viewers saying it made them feel hopeful. More than half—54%—said it made them feel proud, while 27% expressed worry, and 16% reported feeling angry about his remarks.
CNN conducted its own quick poll, which found that 44% of viewers had a very positive reaction to the speech. Another 25% described their reaction as somewhat positive, while 31% viewed the remarks negatively.
When asked about Trump’s leadership, 50% of respondents said they had confidence in his ability to lead. Additionally, 45% believed he would use his presidential power responsibly, and 40% felt that his policies would directly benefit people like them.
During his address, Trump emphasized his commitment to reducing federal spending, strengthening border security, and cracking down on illegal immigration—key issues that had been central to his campaign promises.
