Trump’s Approval Rating Dips Following Wave of Executive Orders: Poll
President Donald Trump’s approval rating has taken a slight dip following his first week back in office, during which he signed multiple executive orders, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll shows 45% of respondents approve of Trump’s actions so far, which include sweeping changes to immigration policies, federal oversight, and military operations. This marks a 2-point drop from an earlier poll conducted this month.
Meanwhile, Trump’s disapproval rating climbed by 7 points, rising from 39% to 46%, as more Americans expressed dissatisfaction with his initial policy moves.
“While Trump is experiencing some degree of a political honeymoon, his approval numbers remain historically low,” said Kyle Kondik, an analyst with the University of Virginia Center for Politics, in an interview with Reuters.
Trump’s executive orders have sharply divided public opinion. His decision to withdraw from the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement on his first day back in office was met with disapproval by 59% of those surveyed.
Additionally, just under 60% of respondents opposed his move to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring programs in federal agencies. His executive order to shut down federal DEI offices was opposed by 51%, while 44% supported the decision.
Immigration policies remain another polarizing issue. Trump’s recent deportation measures have drawn mixed reactions, with 48% of Americans approving of his approach to immigration and border security, while 41% disapprove, according to the poll.
