President Donald Trump responded to the surprising outcome of the New York City Democratic mayoral primary on Wednesday, targeting Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani in a scathing Truth Social post. Referring to Mamdani as “a 100% Communist Lunatic,” the president did not hold back in expressing his frustration over the race results.
This marked Trump’s first public reaction to Mamdani’s apparent win over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. He described the race as “a big moment in the History of our Country,” using the occasion to criticize what he views as the increasing influence of far-left politicians within the Democratic Party.
“We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,” Trump wrote. He also mocked Mamdani’s appearance and delivery, claiming, “He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart.”
The president continued by linking Mamdani to progressive leaders such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies often dubbed “The Squad” stating, “He’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL backing him.” Trump also took aim at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, sarcastically referring to him as “our Great Palestinian Senator” and accusing him of “groveling” before Mamdani.
Trump’s comments reflect ongoing tensions between his political movement and the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, particularly as newer candidates like Mamdani continue to challenge establishment figures in major urban races.
