President-elect Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to criticize the Democratic Party’s celebrity endorsements of Vice President Kamala Harris, specifically targeting figures like Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Reverend Al Sharpton.
Trump questioned the legitimacy of such endorsements, asking whether the Democrats were allowed to pay millions of dollars—$11 million, $2 million, and $500,000, respectively—to secure the support of these prominent figures. He criticized Beyoncé for not performing, Oprah for not contributing much to the campaign (referring to her involvement as “expenses”), and he dismissed Sharpton as a “third-rate con man.”
Beyoncé and Oprah had both joined Harris on the campaign trail. Oprah, however, clarified last month that she was not paid for her appearance with Harris at a live-streamed event, although the campaign did cover production fees.
Sharpton, a longtime civil rights leader and host of MSNBC’s PoliticsNation, had interviewed Harris in October. He also leads the National Action Network, a non-profit advocacy organization that reportedly received a $500,000 donation from Harris’ campaign shortly before the interview. This donation came to light after Sharpton organized a get-out-the-vote rally for Harris just days after the segment aired.
MSNBC stated that they were unaware of any campaign donations to Sharpton’s organization.
