Former President Trump on Thursday refuted claims that he was falling asleep in court during his hush money trial, despite observations by reporters who noticed him with his eyes closed for extended periods. According to the journalists present, Trump appeared to be dozing off, reminiscent of his posture during the initial phase of the trial.
“Contrary to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA, I don’t fall asleep during the Crooked D.A.’s Witch Hunt, especially not today. I simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes, to listen intensely and absorb everything,” Trump asserted on Truth Social.
On several instances on Thursday, Trump was observed sitting with his eyes shut for several minutes. Furthermore, on the first day of jury selection, he was seen with his head bowed, mouth open, and eyes closed, according to reporters.
The New York Times noted on the trial’s opening day that Trump’s attorney had to pass him notes, which seemed to prompt Trump to suddenly awaken and acknowledge them.
The incident has drawn ridicule from Democrats and late-night television hosts, highlighting the former president’s courtroom demeanor.
During Thursday’s proceedings, testimony was heard from Keith Davidson, a lawyer who represented two central figures in the case, Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, followed by Doug Daus, a forensic analyst with years of experience in the district attorney’s office.
