Special Poll
Former President Trump launched a scathing critique of President Biden’s management of inflation in a series of late-night posts on social media, humorously attributing the nation’s economic woes to the decreasing size of Snickers bars.
In consecutive updates on Truth Social late Friday, Trump targeted Biden, his potential opponent in the upcoming general election, criticizing him for attributing sustained high prices to “corporate greed.”
“Unbelievably, Crooked Joe appeared on television last week and claimed in an interview that Americans can actually AFFORD his harsh inflation tax—he asserted that families QUOTE ‘have the money to spend,’ and then bizarrely blamed his economic disaster on companies reducing the size of their Snickers bars,” Trump wrote.
Trump argued that Americans’ financial struggles are not due to excessive spending on items like Snickers bars, but rather due to what he describes as having “the worst, most incompetent, most corrupt president in the history of our country.”
These comments were in response to statements Biden made during a recent CNN interview, where he expressed his focus on controlling “shrinkflation” — a term used when companies reduce the size of their products without lowering prices.
“If you look at what people have, they have the money to spend. It upsets them, and it upsets me, that you have to pay more for less—that’s corporate greed. And we’ve got to tackle it. That’s what I’m working on,” Biden said.
Despite recent data from the Labor Department indicating a slowdown in inflation to about 3.4% and a drop in grocery prices for the first time in a year, a Gallup poll from early May still listed inflation or high cost of living as the most significant financial concern for American families.
Polls leading up to the general election show that more Americans trust Trump over Biden in managing the economy and inflation. According to an early May ABC News/Ipsos poll, 46% of Americans favor Trump on economic issues, compared to 32% for Biden.
Trump also took to Truth Social to blame Biden for the financial hardships faced by younger Americans, including challenges in affording homes, cars, and even rent payments.
“One of the most harsh effects of the Biden Inflation Tax is how Crooked Joe has rendered it impossible for millions of Americans, especially YOUNG Americans, to buy a home, a car, or even make rent payments,” Trump stated. “High inflation translates to high prices, high interest rates, high mortgage rates, and the end of the American Dream.”
“Despite what Biden claims, the American People CANNOT afford his inflation nightmare—and we DEFINITELY cannot afford four more years of Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump concluded.
