Special Poll
Lara Trump, President-elect Trump’s daughter-in-law and former co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has announced she will not pursue a seat in the U.S. Senate to replace Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.
In a statement shared on the platform X, Trump expressed her decision after significant thought and encouragement from supporters. She described the opportunity to serve as RNC co-chair during a critical election as an honor and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received from people across the country and in Florida.
President-elect Trump had previously nominated Rubio to serve as Secretary of State, prompting speculation about who might fill his Senate seat. Earlier this month, Lara Trump stepped down from her role at the RNC to give serious consideration to the possibility of entering the Senate. If Rubio is confirmed for the State Department position, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will appoint a replacement to serve until a special election in 2026, which will determine who will complete the remaining two years of Rubio’s term.
Trump wished DeSantis success in making the appointment and hinted at future plans, encouraging her followers to stay tuned for an announcement in January.
