Former President Trump announced on Monday that instead of participating in a debate on Fox News, he will be taking part in a tele-town hall event hosted by the network in early September. This decision came after Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign made it clear that she would not be participating in a debate on Fox News.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that the town hall would be anchored by Sean Hannity and take place in Pennsylvania, with further details to be provided later. He also expressed that he was “not surprised” by Harris’s refusal to debate on Fox News, citing her difficulty in defending her shifting positions on various issues.
The Harris campaign had previously committed to three debates this election season: two presidential debates and one vice-presidential debate. The first of these debates is scheduled for September 10, hosted by ABC News. Harris’s team has indicated they may consider a second presidential debate in October, contingent on the outcome of the initial debate.
Trump had initially agreed to participate in two other debates, including one on September 4 on Fox News and another on September 25 on NBC News. However, with President Biden stepping down as the Democratic nominee following his underwhelming performance in a June debate, these plans have since been adjusted.
