Trump to Host DC Rally Ahead of Second Inauguration
President-elect Donald Trump is set to host a “victory rally” in Washington, D.C., the day before his second inauguration, according to an announcement from his inauguration committee on Wednesday. The event will take place at the Capital One Arena on January 19.
The rally will feature remarks from Trump and other yet-to-be-announced speakers. This event marks a celebratory kickoff to his second term, with the official inauguration scheduled for January 20 at the U.S. Capitol. The day will include the swearing-in ceremony and a series of events commemorating the occasion.
This will be Trump’s first rally in Washington, D.C., since his controversial speech at the Ellipse on January 6, 2021, which occurred shortly before the attack on the Capitol. That event was tied to efforts by some of his supporters to overturn the certification of the 2020 election results.
Trump recently met with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to discuss plans for his second term. Bowser described the meeting as “productive,” highlighting their focus on shared priorities for the nation’s capital under the incoming administration.
CBS News was the first to report on the rally, which is expected to draw significant attention as Trump prepares to launch his second term in office.
