Trump Does What At Mar-A-Lago Before Inauguration?

At President-elect Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the American flags were observed at full-staff on Monday, according to The Associated Press. This action occurred before the completion of the 30-day mourning period for former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100.

President Joe Biden had previously mandated that flags across the country be flown at half-staff until the evening of January 28 to honor Carter. Similarly, Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, issued a 30-day order for flags to be at half-staff across the state.

Reports indicated that although a prominent flag at Mar-a-Lago was initially lowered, it was later raised back to full-staff. President-elect Trump has publicly expressed his displeasure regarding the timing of the half-staff flags coinciding with his upcoming inauguration, criticizing the Democrats on his Truth Social account on January 3. He claimed they were pleased with the flags at half-mast during his inauguration as it reflects their priorities and alleged lack of patriotism.

Trump argued that seeing the flags at half-staff during such a significant event was unwelcome and suggested no American would favor this. He speculated on the outcome, given the controversial timing.

In a move that aligns with Trump’s inauguration for a second term, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared that flags in Texas would return to full-staff on Inauguration Day. Abbott emphasized the importance of recognizing both the contributions of the outgoing president and the promise under the incoming administration.

Trump paid his respects to Carter during the latter’s lying in state at the Capitol Rotunda and attended the state funeral. Despite their political and philosophical differences, Trump acknowledged in a statement after Carter’s passing that the former president had a profound respect and love for the country and its values.
