Donald Trump is seeing a surprising increase in support from Democratic voters, according to a new survey. A poll conducted by Quantus Insights between May 18 and 20 shows Trump gaining 4 percentage points among Democrats, with 11 percent now approving of his job performance, up from 7 percent in April. His disapproval rating among Democrats also declined, dropping from 91 percent to 87 percent.
The same poll also recorded a notable rise in support from Black voters. Trump’s approval among this group increased by 5 points, reaching 27 percent up from 22 percent in the previous poll. His disapproval rating among Black voters fell by 2 points, down to 64 percent. Among all other demographics surveyed, Trump’s approval ratings remained relatively stable with no significant changes. The poll carried a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Quantus Insights has been recognized for its polling accuracy and was ranked in the top 20 by ActiVote’s Most Valuable Pollster ratings.
Trump’s modest gains among Democrats and Black voters two groups that traditionally support Democratic candidates suggest a subtle but potentially meaningful shift in voter sentiment. These changes may provide Trump with added momentum as he pushes forward with his second-term agenda and signal new challenges for Democrats as they prepare for the 2026 midterm elections.
Although the Quantus poll shows some movement in Trump’s favor, other recent surveys have offered more restrained results. For example, the latest Civiqs and YouGov/Economist polls reported only a 1-point rise in Trump’s approval among Democrats, moving from 5 percent to 6 percent changes that fall within the margin of error and suggest that any broader trend is still in its early stages.
