Trump Decision Shocks Americans

The Trump administration is preparing to eliminate thousands of jobs at the Department of Health and Human Services, with a focus on employees who have been in their roles for two years or less. Reports indicate that the cuts could take effect as soon as today.

These reductions, part of a broader effort to restructure the executive branch, would impact various agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The changes could affect critical areas such as drug reviews, disease monitoring, and biomedical research.

Senior officials were informed on Friday morning that approximately 5,200 employees still in their probationary period would be impacted, according to STAT. At the CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta, at least 1,300 jobs—around one-tenth of the agency’s workforce—are at risk, as reported by WSB-TV.

A spokesperson for HHS, Andrew Nixon, stated that the department is following the administration’s guidance to align with efforts to restructure and improve government efficiency. He emphasized that the goal is to ensure HHS serves the public at the highest and most efficient level.

HHS has not confirmed specific details regarding the planned job cuts.
