Former President Trump has called for Vice President Kamala Harris to take a cognitive test following criticisms from her campaign regarding his medical records and his fitness for office.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that Harris should undergo a test for cognitive stamina and agility, claiming without evidence that her actions raise concerns about her mental health. He also criticized her performance in a recent interview, alleging that she was “slow and lethargic” in her responses, particularly on foreign policy topics such as Israel.
Trump accused the “60 Minutes” program of editing Harris’s responses unfairly, though the network had released both a preview clip and the full version of her comments online.
As Election Day approaches, Harris’s campaign has increasingly focused on Trump’s mental fitness. On Saturday, Harris released her medical records, showing that she is in “excellent health” and has the necessary physical and mental capacity to serve as president. She also challenged the 78-year-old Trump to release his own medical records, something he had promised in August but has yet to do.
Harris, speaking in North Carolina, questioned why Trump’s team has kept him out of the spotlight, suggesting they may be concerned about his stability. Despite this pressure, Trump’s campaign has not indicated any plans to release his full medical history, instead highlighting the updates on his recovery from an ear wound after being shot in July. The campaign also pointed to Trump’s busy schedule as proof of his fitness for office.
Trump has a history of questioning the mental fitness of his political rivals, making similar claims in the 2016 and 2020 elections. He has previously called for his opponents to take drug tests before debates, although these accusations have been made without any supporting evidence.
