Senator Tommy Tuberville recently shared strong criticism about the state of the U.S. military, claiming it’s currently too weak to effectively stand against any other nation in battle. During a conversation with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Tuberville emphasized that “our military, Laura, is a disaster. Absolute disaster. We couldn’t beat anybody right now.” He acknowledged that while there are capable individuals serving, he believes the overall structure and direction of the military have deteriorated, pointing fingers at policies he attributes to Democratic leadership.
The senator’s remarks came up amid a broader discussion on military spending and U.S. involvement overseas, particularly concerning Ukraine. Tuberville made it clear that he has consistently opposed sending financial aid to Ukraine as they defend against Russian aggression. He argued that Ukraine is under-resourced and lacks the manpower to emerge victorious in the conflict. “They can’t win, Laura,” Tuberville stated, expressing concern over the toll the war has taken on Ukrainian lives. He reiterated that he does not support further U.S. funding for Ukraine, citing his reluctance to back what he sees as a losing fight.
Looking ahead, Tuberville voiced hope for an end to the conflict, suggesting that President-elect Trump could step in to broker a resolution. “President Trump is going to get them out of this,” he predicted, though he acknowledged the possibility of compromises in any negotiated peace. According to Tuberville, continuing to send money to Ukraine is not a sustainable solution, and he feels the U.S. should shift its focus and resources elsewhere.
