Third Impeachment For Trump?

Michigan Democratic Representative Shri Thanedar announced Monday that he has officially filed articles of impeachment against President Trump. In a public statement, Thanedar said the move was a response to what he described as a series of unconstitutional and dangerous actions taken by the president.

“I have introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump,” Thanedar stated. “When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not ‘fighting for America.’ He is tearing it down and endangering our democracy.”

Thanedar cited seven specific charges in the articles of impeachment. Among them were the controversial deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a legal U.S. resident mistakenly sent to El Salvador, and the use of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to unilaterally cut federal funding without congressional consent. He also pointed to the president’s sweeping tariffs, his treatment of the press, concerns over corruption within the justice system, and the unauthorized collection of Americans’ personal information.

While the articles are not expected to gain traction in the Republican-controlled House, the filing underscores deepening tensions between the White House and congressional Democrats. Any vote to impeach would need support from GOP lawmakers to pass, and even then, conviction would require a two-thirds vote in the Senate, where Republicans also hold a majority.

Still, Thanedar made clear that the effort is meant to send a message. “Donald Trump has already done real damage to our democracy, but defying a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court ruling, that has to be the one final straw,” he said, referring to the high court’s decision in the Abrego Garcia case. “It’s time we impeach Donald J. Trump.”

This move marks one of the most direct challenges to Trump’s authority during his second term, as Democrats voice growing alarm over his approach to constitutional norms and the separation of powers.
