Bruce Springsteen is speaking out forcefully against President Trump, accusing him of leading what he describes as a corrupt and dangerous administration that is harming the country from within. The iconic musician made the remarks Monday night while launching his “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour in Manchester, England.
“There’s some very weird, strange, and dangerous stuff going on out there right now,” Springsteen said from the stage. “In America, they are persecuting people simply for exercising their right to free speech and for voicing dissent.”
Springsteen, who publicly supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the last presidential election, didn’t hold back as he criticized the current state of U.S. leadership. “In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death,” he said. “They are inflicting pain on hardworking Americans and seem to take sadistic pleasure in doing it.”
He warned the audience that civil rights are being stripped away at home. “They’re rolling back historic civil rights legislation that made our society more just, more plural. They’re reversing decades of progress.”
Springsteen also accused the administration of undermining America’s international reputation. “They are abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators instead of those fighting for freedom. They’re punishing American universities that won’t surrender to their ideological demands.”
His comments came just weeks after the Trump administration announced it was freezing over $2 billion in federal grants to Harvard University for refusing to comply with White House mandates related to protests and DEI programs.
Springsteen expressed particular concern over immigration policies, accusing the government of violating due process. “They’re removing residents from our streets and deporting them to foreign prisons—without fair trials, without justice. And this is happening right now,” he said.
At 75, Springsteen is continuing to use his platform to shine a light on what he sees as moral and political decline in the United States, urging fans around the world not to stay silent.
