President Trump on Friday reignited his public feud with pop star Taylor Swift by claiming she is no longer “hot,” adding another jab to what has largely been a one-sided conflict between the two.
He wrote on Truth Social, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” despite Swift’s ongoing dominance in the music industry. Her Eras Tour has grossed more than $2 billion, making it the highest-earning tour of all time. She holds 14 Grammy Awards out of 58 nominations and was the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2024 with 26.6 billion streams. Her latest album was also the first to surpass 300 million streams in a single day.
Swift, who was largely silent on politics in 2016, has since taken clear political stances. She endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024. Trump has responded over the years with disdain toward her political involvement and success.
Back in 2018, when Swift endorsed Democrat Phil Bredesen over Republican Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee, Trump remarked, “Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now, OK?” Bredesen lost the race, but Swift’s influence became increasingly visible.
During the 2020 campaign, Swift directly criticized Trump, accusing him of promoting white supremacy and using incendiary rhetoric. She explicitly called for him to be voted out and endorsed Biden.
In 2023, after Swift began dating NFL player Travis Kelce, Trump commented, “I hope they enjoy their life, maybe together, maybe not most likely not.” That same year, Trump compared himself to Elvis Presley after a song performed by January 6 rioters topped a digital music chart. The song, “Justice for All,” briefly hit No. 1, although Swift had not been charting at the time.
In interviews for a 2023 book, Trump offered seemingly contradictory thoughts, describing Swift as “very beautiful” and “very talented,” but also noting she probably didn’t like him due to her liberal views.
By 2024, tensions had escalated again. In August, Trump reposted AI-generated images falsely suggesting Swift supported him, despite her not endorsing anyone at the time. A month later, Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris shortly after Harris’s first debate with Trump. She referred to herself as a “childless cat lady” a pointed response to previous remarks by Trump’s running mate JD Vance about Harris’ lack of biological children.
Following Swift’s endorsement of Harris, Trump declared, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” on Truth Social and warned she would “pay a price” for backing his opponent.
