Romney Slanders Trump

Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) stated that the American public has little room to complain if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on the promises he made during his campaign. Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Romney remarked, “Donald Trump won. He won overwhelmingly. He said what he was going to do, and that’s what he’s doing.” He added, “People are saying, ‘Oh, I don’t like this appointment or this policy,’ but those are the things he said he was going to do when he ran. So, you can’t complain about someone who does what he said he was going to do.”

Romney, 77, appeared on the program for a congressional exit interview as he prepares to leave the Senate after serving since 2019. He announced his retirement last year, emphasizing the importance of making way for a new generation of leaders. While often critical of Trump, Romney acknowledged during the interview that he agrees with the president-elect on several policy issues. However, he clarified that he did not support Trump in the two most recent presidential elections, citing concerns over character differences.

“I disagree with him on some things,” Romney said, “but it’s like, OK, give him a chance to do what he says he’s going to do and see how it works out.” He also dismissed concerns about facing potential prosecution from Trump, expressing hope that the president-elect will focus his next term on addressing future challenges rather than revisiting past conflicts.
