Former President Donald Trump took a jab at Time Magazine following its latest cover featuring billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. When asked about the magazine’s decision to highlight Musk’s influence in Washington, Trump responded with a remark that appeared to mock the publication.

During a press conference on Friday with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Trump was questioned about the cover image, which depicts Musk sitting behind the Oval Office’s Resolute Desk. Shaking his head, he replied, “Is Time Magazine still in business? I didn’t even know that.”
His comment came shortly after Time previewed a cover story titled “Inside Elon Musk’s War on Washington.” The article explores Musk’s push to reshape federal agencies in his role as head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This initiative has focused on eliminating what Musk and the administration see as unnecessary spending, but it has also raised concerns about his growing influence over key government functions.
Among the more controversial moves is the effort to dismantle agencies like the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Department of Education. Additionally, DOGE’s access to Treasury Department payment systems was temporarily blocked by a federal judge over the weekend, fueling debates about the extent of Musk’s power within Trump’s administration.
Despite these concerns, Trump stood by Musk on Friday, stating that he is doing a “great job” in helping the government run more efficiently.
