Popular President Passes Away

Former President Jimmy Carter, a humble peanut farmer from Georgia whose remarkable journey took him from the fields to the governor’s mansion and eventually to the White House, passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 100, according to the Carter Center. He celebrated his 100th birthday in October, becoming the longest-living president in U.S. history.

“My father was a hero, not just to me but to everyone who values peace, human rights, and selfless love,” shared Chip Carter, one of his children, in a statement. “My siblings and I shared him with the world through these shared beliefs. He made the world our family by uniting people, and we are grateful for those who honor his legacy by living out these principles.”

He is survived by his children—Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy—along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His beloved wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, passed away just weeks earlier on November 19, 2023.

In February 2023, the Carter Center announced that the former president had entered hospice care at home following several brief hospital stays, choosing to spend his remaining time surrounded by loved ones rather than undergoing further medical treatment.

Carter, a Democrat, entered the White House at age 52, serving a challenging term that faced crises like the Iran hostage situation, oil shortages, and soaring inflation. However, his presidency was only a part of his extraordinary legacy.

In his post-presidency, which spanned more than four decades, Carter dedicated himself to humanitarian work, global health initiatives, and conflict resolution, setting a benchmark for compassionate leadership.
