Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has publicly declared that she had no interest in joining President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet, dismissing the significance of Trump’s social media actions that seemed to exclude her and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo from his team.
Speaking on her radio show, “Nikki Haley Live,” broadcast from London, Haley emphasized her independence from the political games Trump plays. “He can be shallow at times, which he demonstrated, but I choose not to engage at that level,” she remarked. “I’m very content with my current situation and comfortable with how things unfolded.”
Trump recently stated on his Truth Social platform that he would not be inviting Haley or Pompeo to his administration, expressing his gratitude for their past service. Despite having opposed Trump in the primaries, Haley endorsed him following her withdrawal from the race, as did Pompeo.
On her show, Haley recounted a meeting with Trump’s close associate, Steve Witkoff, who visited her home in South Carolina. “Steve sought a reconciliation between Trump and myself,” Haley shared. “I assured him that there were no hard feelings on my part, and that I supported Trump.”
She further revealed that Howard Lutnick, Trump’s transition director, had sought her recommendations for potential Cabinet members weeks earlier. “I stressed the importance of Trump being surrounded by truthful advisors and suggested roles for others, but made it clear I wasn’t seeking a position for myself,” she explained.
Haley also took to social media to wish Trump well, mentioning that her family was disappointed that she hadn’t been more outspoken. “But I understand the political game he’s playing; I don’t need to participate in it,” she said. “Instead, we need to focus on strengthening and securing America.”
She also encouraged Americans to hope for the success of Trump’s appointees, emphasizing a non-personal perspective on Trump’s actions: “I don’t take it personally; that’s just his way.”
During the show, former British Prime Minister David Cameron joined Haley to discuss international relations, particularly urging a robust U.S. policy towards Iran under Trump’s presidency. Cameron criticized the recent lack of a clear American strategy on Iran, contrasting it with the more decisive approaches of the past. He expressed hope for a significant policy shift under Trump regarding Iran.
