Nikki Haley Goes After Trump Appointments

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has voiced significant concerns about President-elect Donald Trump’s decisions to appoint former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to key positions in his Cabinet. Speaking on SiriusXM’s “Nikki Haley Live”, Haley did not hold back in criticizing both individuals, particularly for their past statements and lack of relevant expertise.

Haley expressed strong disapproval of Gabbard’s controversial views on international affairs, particularly regarding Russia’s war on Ukraine. She pointed out that Gabbard has publicly blamed NATO—the alliance designed to counter Russian aggression—for the conflict. “After Russia invaded Ukraine, Tulsi Gabbard literally blamed NATO,” Haley emphasized. She also noted that Gabbard’s comments were amplified by Russian and Chinese state media, raising concerns about her suitability for a role like Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

“She hasn’t backtracked on her defenses of regimes like Russia, Syria, Iran, and China,” Haley continued. “This is not a position for someone whose rhetoric aligns with adversaries. The DNI needs to focus on real threats, not sympathize with nations that undermine our security.”

Turning her focus to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Haley highlighted his lack of qualifications to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees 25% of the federal budget. “He’s a liberal Democrat, an environmental attorney, and a trial lawyer, but he has no experience in health care,” Haley said. While acknowledging that some people might appreciate Kennedy’s skepticism about vaccines and food safety, she questioned his ability to make sound decisions in such a critical role.

Haley suggested that Kennedy might be better suited to an advisory role in health policy and called for the Senate to rigorously question his qualifications before confirming him. However, Trump has indicated that he may bypass Senate confirmations altogether, opting for recess appointments if necessary.

Despite the controversy surrounding many of his Cabinet picks, Trump retains the support of House Speaker Mike Johnson. He has also scheduled private meetings between his nominees and key Senators, with the backing of Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Haley’s remarks reflect broader concerns about the qualifications and political alignment of Trump’s Cabinet appointees, particularly as the nation faces complex domestic and international challenges. Her critiques underscore the importance of scrutinizing these appointments to ensure they serve the country effectively.
