Musk Hurting Trump After This?

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently raised concerns about tech billionaire Elon Musk’s plan to offer $1 million to voters who sign his America PAC petition in the lead-up to Election Day. Shapiro expressed his worries, calling the move “deeply concerning.”

Speaking during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Shapiro highlighted potential issues with how Musk is using his wealth to influence the election. “There are serious questions about how this money is being spent, not just in Pennsylvania but now directly reaching Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro said, emphasizing his discomfort with the involvement of dark money in the race.

Musk, an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump, announced the initiative as a way to gather signatures supporting free speech and Second Amendment rights. In exchange for signing the petition, individuals could become spokespeople and potentially receive part of the $1 million prize.

Shapiro acknowledged Musk’s right to express his views, despite their political differences. “He’s been very clear about his support for Donald Trump, and while I disagree, I respect his right to hold and express those views,” the governor said. However, Shapiro pointed out that the financial involvement in this way raises ethical concerns and potential questions about election influence.

When asked if Musk’s actions were legal, Shapiro, a former Pennsylvania attorney general, stopped short of giving a legal opinion, stating, “That’s for law enforcement to examine.”

Shapiro’s remarks have added to the ongoing discussion about the role of money in politics and how wealthy individuals might impact elections through financial influence.
