Special Poll
When Montana launched its absentee voting system at 8 a.m. on Friday, a significant error occurred: Vice President Kamala Harris was missing from the ballot. The Washington Examiner reported this oversight as part of a system glitch that affected electronic ballot access for some registered voters.
This issue left voters with only former President Donald Trump and former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the presidential options. The error was quickly addressed after the Montana Secretary of State’s office received reports of the omission, and the system was taken offline for repairs. By Friday afternoon, it had been fixed, and the full list of candidates was restored.
Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen clarified in a Monday statement that the omission was a technical error and not intentional. She emphasized that all qualified candidates were certified for the 2024 General Election ballot, and reassured the public that no ballots were compromised. Voters affected by the glitch were able to cast their votes later that day with an updated ballot including all candidates.
Additionally, the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act ensures that American citizens serving in the military or living abroad can vote electronically within 45 days of an election. Absentee voting in Montana will commence on October 7 and continue through Election Day on November 5.
