Marjorie Taylor Greene Claims Federal Workers Don’t Deserve Their Paychecks
During a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) made strong remarks about federal employees, stating that they “don’t deserve” their jobs or paychecks.
“These are not real jobs that generate federal revenue,” Greene argued. “They rely on taxpayer dollars. American workers with real jobs, who earn real income, pay federal taxes that fund these positions.” She went on to say that federal employees “do not deserve their jobs” and should be “fired at will.”
Her comments drew immediate criticism, particularly from Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), who pointed out that Greene’s own district includes thousands of federal employees.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene believes that 6,008 of her constituents don’t deserve jobs or paychecks simply because they work for the federal government,” Escobar posted on social media. “To borrow a phrase from her favorite person: SAD!”
The discussion arose as Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) spoke out against privatizing the U.S. Postal Service, warning of the consequences for millions of Americans.
“These reports are deeply concerning,” Krishnamoorthi stated. “No private company ensures universal service across the country. Without these postal workers, over 51.5 million households and businesses—especially in rural areas—would be left without guaranteed mail delivery.”
Greene’s remarks have added fuel to the ongoing debate about the role of government employees and the future of federal services.
