Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was visibly emotional as he addressed his audience about former President Trump’s recent electoral win.
“It was undeniably a tough night,” Kimmel expressed on his Wednesday show, highlighting the impact of the election results. “It was a hard night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of diligent immigrants who contribute so much to our nation.”
Overcome with emotion, Kimmel took a moment before continuing.
“This was a setback for healthcare, our climate, scientific progress, and journalism,” he said, earning applause from the audience. “It was a rough night for justice, for free speech, for the economically disadvantaged, the middle class, and for seniors depending on Social Security.”
Tears appeared in his eyes as he extended his list of those affected: “for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for the pillars of truth, democracy, and decency.”
Kimmel, who has consistently criticized Trump, argued that the election results were detrimental not only for those who opposed Trump but also for his supporters, though they may not yet realize it.
Just days prior to the election, Kimmel had delivered an impassioned 18-minute plea to Republicans, urging them not to cast their votes for the GOP candidate.
