- Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed that Tyler Robinson, 22, of Washington, Utah, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Robinson is not a student at the university and is registered as an unaffiliated voter. Family members told authorities that he had become increasingly political in recent years and had openly criticized Kirk at a family dinner before the event. Following the incident, Robinson’s own relatives alerted law enforcement after he allegedly confessed or implied his involvement, leading to his arrest near Washington, Utah.
- Surveillance footage revealed that Robinson arrived on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger and wore a maroon T-shirt, shorts, and a black hat. Investigators noted that he changed outfits multiple times during the incident but was wearing clothes consistent with earlier footage when he was taken into custody. Authorities also reviewed Discord messages shared by his roommate, in which Robinson mentioned retrieving a rifle from a drop point and leaving it in a bush. The weapon, identified as a Mauser 98 rifle with a scope, was later recovered.
- Investigators also uncovered disturbing details: bullet casings with inscriptions, including one that read “Hey fascist!” and another containing lyrics from the song Bella Ciao. Forensic teams collected palm impressions, DNA smudges, and shoe prints at the scene, with Converse sneakers linked to Robinson. Officials initially circulated surveillance images showing the suspect running across the roof of the university, helping narrow the search. Although charges have not yet been filed, authorities emphasized that Robinson is believed to have acted alone, and the investigation remains active.
