Adam Kinzinger, the former Representative from Illinois, publicly rebuked Donald Trump on X (previously known as Twitter) after Trump derogatorily compared the United States to a “third-world country” in his speech celebrating Super Tuesday victories.
In response to Trump’s remarks, Kinzinger sharply criticized, “Trump just called America a ‘third world’ country. With all due respect (which is none), eat dirt scumbag. This is the best country on earth. You are our biggest embarrassment and stain. But you’ll be over in a year.”
During his victory speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump, having secured victories in over ten primaries, broached his familiar theme of border security and immigration, suggesting the U.S. resembled a third-world country and lamenting that “our country is dying,” as reported by Forbes.
Kinzinger, who has been a vocal critic of Trump and participated in the committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot, has frequently voiced concerns about the threat Trump poses to democracy and his disregard for the U.S. Constitution.
In a CNN interview on Wednesday, Kinzinger acknowledged Trump’s Super Tuesday triumph as “an impressive political victory” but expressed reluctance to treat Trump’s string of wins as normal, particularly in the aftermath of the Capitol attack. He highlighted Trump’s significant victories in several states, including Texas, but criticized the tone and content of Trump’s victory speech for its negative portrayal of the United States.
With Nikki Haley withdrawing from the race and simplifying the GOP primary landscape, Kinzinger looked ahead to the general election, indicating a preference for President Biden over Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
