Former Vice President Kamala Harris dismissed speculation about a potential run for governor of California, emphasizing that she is focused on reconnecting with her community after returning home.
Speaking to reporters on Friday after touring areas affected by the Palisades wildfire, Harris made it clear that she has not given serious thought to a gubernatorial bid. “I have been home for two weeks and three days. My priority right now is to engage with my community, meet with local leaders, and determine how I can best support them,” she said.
She also underscored her commitment to her home state, stating that her presence was not tied to holding any particular office. “I am here, and I would be here no matter what my title is. Showing up for your community and expressing gratitude to those on the front lines is simply the right thing to do,” she added.
Harris also addressed the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in California, stressing the need for a stronger, collaborative approach between federal, state, and local agencies.
“These extreme weather conditions have become far more common than what we’ve seen in the past. This underscores the importance of a strong and coordinated effort at every level of government. Here in California, for example, we no longer refer to a specific wildfire season,” she explained.
“Wildfires can occur at any time of the year, and we must be prepared for that reality.”
