Former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele predicted on Sunday that Vice President Kamala Harris will win the general election and flip key states like Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Speaking on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart,” Steele highlighted the growing coalition led by Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, describing it as a political force that history will recognize.
Steele specifically pointed out Florida and North Carolina as swing states that are now “in play” for Harris, citing rising enthusiasm and support from Black voters in these critical regions.
Author and podcast host Steve Phillips shared a similar view, stating that nearly all the states President Obama won in 2012 could be within reach for Harris in the upcoming election.
Steele agreed with Phillips, adding that Harris has the potential to create a coalition that could surpass even the historic ones formed by Obama in 2008 and Biden in 2020.
Steele emphasized the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned federal protections for abortion rights. He believes this could help Harris win over center-right voters who disagree with the Republican Party’s stance on restrictive abortion laws.
Harris’s potential coalition, Steele said, could bring together a broader base of support, tapping into voters who are disillusioned by the GOP’s approach to women’s rights, particularly on abortion.
Steele noted that this transformational moment could expand Harris’s voter base beyond traditional Democratic supporters, attracting those who are uncomfortable with the Republican Party’s policies on social issues.
