Vice President Kamala Harris is highlighting former President Trump’s unfulfilled promise to release his medical records, something that sets him apart from other presidential candidates in recent history.
If Trump wins, he would be the oldest president ever inaugurated. Despite this, his campaign has shared significantly less information about his health compared to the details released by the White House about President Biden, whom Trump has frequently criticized for his age and fitness.
In August, Trump told CBS News he would “very gladly” release his medical records to the public. However, with only about three weeks left until Election Day, that has yet to happen.
“He refuses to release his medical records,” Harris stated at a rally on Sunday. “I’ve done it. Every other presidential candidate in the modern era has done it.” On Saturday, Harris released a two-page medical report affirming her physical and mental resilience and ability to perform the duties of the presidency.
When asked about the results of Trump’s recent medical examinations, a campaign spokesperson referred to a nearly year-old letter from his doctor. The letter stated that Trump’s physical and cognitive exams were exceptional and that his most recent laboratory analysis was well within normal limits, with improvements in some key parameters, attributed to weight loss.
Additionally, Trump’s spokesperson pointed to a report from July by Rep. Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former physician, following Trump’s recovery from a bullet wound to his ear. Jackson reassured the public that Trump was doing extremely well.
As the election approaches, discussions about candidates’ age and mental agility remain central. At 78, Trump is the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history.
