Vice President Kamala Harris participated in a one-on-one interview with a local Philadelphia news station on Friday, highlighting her role as part of a “new generation of leadership.”
Big Picture: This marked Harris’ first formal, solo interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, according to Action News 6 ABC.
Details: The pre-recorded interview was conducted by anchor Brian Taff.
Last month, Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, did a joint interview with CNN.
What She Said: When asked about her economic plans, Harris emphasized initiatives aimed at supporting small businesses and helping first-time homebuyers with down payments.
“When I talk about building an opportunity economy, it’s about investing in the ambitions, aspirations, and hard work of the American people, and creating chances for them—like helping people start small businesses,” she explained.
Harris also expressed her belief that Americans want a leader who fosters unity rather than division, adding, “I believe, based on my experience, that most Americans have far more in common than what divides us.”
Looking Ahead: Harris is scheduled to participate in a real-time, fact-checked, live-streamed interview with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Tuesday at WHYY public radio station in Philadelphia.
In July, she had previously criticized former President Trump for an interview he gave during NABJ’s annual convention.
